[ after this conversation, thomas goes digging in the contacts in his phone for whoever 'kaneda' is, and happens upon this dude first. welp, this might be awkward. ]
i heard you know a guy with spiky black hair and telekinetic powers. can i get his name?
[He's been awake at the hospital for a couple days now and someone had the decency to keep his comm close by for him. Technopathy is great. He can just touch the device and think what he wants it to do. Which is even better since he's not terribly mobile at the moment.
With nothing to do, he's starting to check up on everyone he remembers running into at the swear in, first being Kaneda.]
kaneda hey its tadashi just seeing how youre doing after all the mess at the swear in please be okay
[Kaneda, who had been recovering under Charlie's care, had refused hospital help. He trusted Charlie more than the doctors with this, so while he's healed, the bruising and burns are going to have to go away on their own.
Not...the worst fate, but not a comfortable one.
But when he gets a text from Tadashi, it's like that face lights up. He'd yet to check on most of the people he met during swear-in, so hearing from Tadashi was a welcome sign.]
[Ken laid around all day today, even after that conversation with Kaneda. He's been quiet all month, but quieter even since then, often lying still on his bed and staring at the ceiling, especially at nighttime when he can hide away in space and just get lost in his mind as he wishes. Those times it's impossible to get close to him; Koromaru lies at the door, staring down anybody who approaches. This continues all the way to the evening of the fourth when Ken steps out, and when he comes home that night he's still quiet but in a less troubled way. When asked, he would've responded that he found an answer.
It's a couple days after that that he disappears along with Koromaru. No warning, no announcement. Minato would've dropped by that day to look, but all that's left behind is an empty room and silence. And a piece of paper in Kaneda's room.
Ken didn't intend for this to not be found this belatedly. He actually snuck it into Kaneda's room on the fourth, just before he left to see Shinjiro. It had felt important to him at the time, but his mind was so full of what he must do, he couldn't stop for a chat. So it's been left there, a folded up piece of paper with Ken's careful but still oddly balanced Japanese handwriting lined up on it. It probably falls to the floor when Kaneda sets something down on his desk, or perhaps one of the cats find it first. Either way, it'll be there.]
I had a feeling you weren't too happy about not being the one who got Tetsuo-san home. You wanted to be. Otherwise you wouldn't have been that desperate, right? But I felt like someone had to make sure you remembered so I'm saying it now. Maybe it's unnecessary, so in that case, you can disregard this.
Nobody else can do it but you, Kaneda-san. You're the only one. A lot may have happened between the two of you. You might think it's inevitable, or even necessary, that Tetsuo-san is angry at you. But at the same time, there is nobody more important to the two of you than each other. You matter to him more than anybody else. And to you, it's him.
Please don't lose sight of that. As long as you live, there's an opportunity to stand back up. That's what you said, right? If it's you, it can be done. That sort of strength lies within you.
I hope the two of you are able to find your answer one day, too.
[this text comes in pretty early, like 'shower-quality thoughts while watching the sunrise' sort of early. whoever she's sending this to must be pretty familiar, considering her language.]
How do you trick an AI into going to a corn maze with you? He can't know I'm doing it, we're not friends.
And no, you asshole, this isn't the lead-in to a joke. I need help brainstorming.
Okay, so, Spikes, is there any way you can invent a robot that could make girls leave me the fuck alone? Seriously, three girls were touching me today and asking me if I wanted to go out.
[Tetsuo's not going through the pain of moving right now, but there's a few words he's got to have with a certain asshole in the other room. After quickly doing everything he possibly can to hide the evidence from this, deep breath in, and]
[Kaneda's in bed when he gets this, although saying he's sleeping is a bit of a stretch. Staring at the ceiling's more like it, as he sees the light on his comm light up. Snatching it, he looks at it to see a text from Teddie, which honestly...isn't all too surprising by this point.
He's not in the mood for texting back, but he's not going to ignore it either.
[So it's been a While. He saw that Tetsuo was found and assumes they were reunited. But in all of that, Tadashi realized he really does need to come clean to Kaneda about a lot of things. So maybe getting a read on how he's doing first before he tries to talk about it.]
Hey Kaneda checking on you since you guys found Tetsuo Hope things are all right
[Thankfully, it's a pretty okay day for him. Halloween's over (thank god) and the luck-o-meter's on neutral, so when the text pops up as he's just heading out to get some food...]
its tetsuo all right is about the best were going to get
[Once again it's night time, and once again Kaneda will get a call from Teddie. An actual call this time, not a text right off the bat.
Should he choose to answer it, though, he won't be greeted to the usual obnoxious voice that is the bear. No, instead he will get the soothing sound of an actual bear roar right in his ear.
[He was wondering when Teddie would call. Hell, it happens so often that some nights he just waits for Teddie to call and then go to sleep. Saves him the trouble of getting woken up. But not this time--he was exhausted from the past few days, and flops down on his bed to get some shut eye.
He’s almost to the part where he drifts off when...ah, there it is.
Sleepily, he answers, putting the comm to his ear and sitting up. ….and holding it at arms length when the roar sounds. No change in expression, no nothing. Just that.]
