[This hasn't been a fun month or two for thinking. On himself, on people, then life, then back to himself. He'd skirted the issue a couple times before talking to Kaneda anyway, either ignoring the chance to say anything, or almost... but no. And of course, it's always late at night when he's sleepless, staring blankly at Megalodon's tank...
So, time for continuing what's becoming a trend.]
Oi. Kaneda.
[It's past late; maybe Kaneda's asleep. Maybe not. Tetsuo's not speaking loudly enough to really risk waking him up.]
[Kaneda's eyes are closed, and his breathing's regulated, but he's in that half-awake state where you teeter between consciousness and unconsciousness, that moment where you feel yourself slowly fall into the depths of sleep, shrinking away from your own body. Kaneda found it relaxing now, instead of just one more stress to add onto his many, many added ones, and the soft sounds of the filter of Megalodon's tank as well as the soft hum of Ebi (soon to be renamed) in sleep mode.
His body shifts, eyes slowly prying themselves open and focusing on the ceiling, palm rubbing against one to help clear away the bleary presence of grogginess.]
[It's after a few conversations with the people who had messaged him that Riku realizes he's stuck upstairs and that his pigs need someone to come and talk to them. Nike can feed them, but since the only way he can go down there is with great effort, he'd rather avoid it. Not just that, but he feels weird not saying something about the fact that he straight-up died.]
Hey.
Can you come and look after my pigs for the next couple of days?
[He's not sure for how much longer his powers will be out, so he doesn't specify quite how long.]
[Coincidence is a funny thing. When you least expect something to happen—take two paths crossing, for example—coincidence comes along and suddenly there you are, running into someone you hadn't planned on seeing that day.
Not that Josuke minds. He and Kaneda aren't close, but they are friends, and they understand each other well enough. There's never been any hard feelings about the distance between them because it comes with the territory. Two guys who are a lot alike and even tend to run in similar crowds? Probably best they don't run too often in those crowds together.
Which isn't to say they shouldn't run in them at all, or even avoid each other...so it's with a smile that Josuke approaches Kaneda when he spies him sitting on the sidewalk that afternoon in Nonah.]
[Coincidence and luck coincide a little too often, don't they.
Kaneda had just sat down on the sidewalk, three grocery store cakes set on the pavement next to him, fork in hand, already starting in on the red velvet one...his dog, Capsule lay at his feet, and although his tail is wagging, makes no attempt to go up and greet the man.
[HO HO HO, AND MERRY CHRISTMAS! Courtesy of beetlemail, Kaneda will find a package waiting for him. He'll be receiving more Japanese snacks - salty to Maya's sweet - and a Fast and the Furious DVD along with a pack of microwave popcorn.]
I'm pretty sure Christmas isn't your thing, but I'm giving you a gift anyway. Merry Christmas, Kaneda! And thanks for all your help this year.
[He's totally cheating and using Mako's knowledge of Kaneda to give him a quality pair of sticks to practice with. The box is accompanied by a note written in formal Japanese.]
I heard from a friend you could use these. I hope they serve you well in the new year. -Tsubasa-chan
[Kaneda had not been okay since Maya had left. With Tetsuo gone, and now her, all that remained close to his heart was Ken Amada, and that's honestly where he spent most of his free time--with Ken. Work could only do so much...the garage itself was a reminder of everything he'd worked for here, and it's not like he could use his girlfriend as a distraction, anymore. She'd gone too, and he'd cursed at himself for getting attached like the idiot he was.
He and Capsule often laid on Ken's bed, as if soaking in every moment he could of being with him.
Somewhat out of fear that one morning he'd wake up and the boy would be gone, too.
His phone rings, though, eyes glazing over at it humming for his attention, turning over on the bed to bury his face into Capsule's soft fur. It could go to voicemail just like all the others, honestly.
That is, until he hears her voice. He'd memorized it by now, right down to the speech quirks and tone. His muscles freeze on the spot, fingers clenching into his dog's fur as he shuts his eyes tight, not wanting to turn around and actually listen. Because there's a good chance this is a dream, or even worse, that the world's playing his heart like a fiddle.
Capsule, who can't understand why his master is so upset, licks his face a few times. It's enough to confirm he is, in fact, awake, reaching over to fumble for the phone.
His tone is not nearly as shocked and happy as it should be.]
[ Perhaps it's a bit old-fashioned, but the message arrives for Kaneda delivered via mockingbird. Sealed closed by a wax mockingbird sigil, the letter is hand-written in careful cursive. ]
Dear, Mr. Shotaro -
We have not spoken before, but my name is Petyr Baelish. I serve as the ambassador for Maurtia Falls. I write to you on behalf of a project I am working on within my city. Construction has already begun on rebuilding a much larger library, but I wish for this to be more than simply a bigger structure. I hope to inspire education and the spread of knowledge to the natives of Maurtia Falls as well as provide an invaluable resource to new arrivals here. But more than that, I wish to use it to pay homage to the natives who lost their lives within Maurtia Falls due to imPort related tragedies. Their names will be honored within the library itself and donations will be set up to be made to the families.
For that, I need your help. If you are able to donate anything at all to the cause, it would be most appreciated -- whether that is books, money, or simply your time. I've heard rumors you are quite the skilled mechanic. I plan to put programs into place where imPorts teach valuable skills to natives in order to help improve their chances of finding a career other than a criminal one, and I believe you could have a great deal to offer if you were willing.
I thank you for your time, and I do hope to hear back from you soon.
Sincerely, Ambassador Petyr Baelish
[ OOC: You can feel free to just respond to this OOCly if Kaneda would donate anything or not! ]
[Guilt leads to gifts, apparently, but not ones without a surprising amount of cheek. Among his things at work today Kaneda will find a small box with a little personal chocolate cake dressed up in yellow to look like Capsule. Along with it is a Kiddy-type valentine with another dog on it and a stupid "I ruff you" pun, used as a greeting card on the otherwise well-wrapped gift. On the back of the card it says--]
Happy Valentine's day! I don't celebrate this much but it will be fun with you. We'll hang out tonight!
