The more he tells himself that, the less assured he is. With his hand reaching up to Tetsuo's shoulder, he moves him out of the way ever so slightly, not really pushing, but slowly guiding him to the side as he walks towards the window, box of candy still in the other. He reaches into his pocket, fishing around a moment before pulling out his lighter.
With a few flicks to get a steady flame, he holds it under the box to set it on fire, holding it at arms length as he...cautiously...opens that window. Below was the sidewalk it'd burn out on its own as he gives it a toss.
And for as confident as he seemed, deep down he had a feeling that box of candy could have done anything or everything to him. ]

But that would require focusing on the thing. It's not until Kaneda's carefully and slowly set it on fire and unceremoniously dropped it out the window that Tetsuo lets himself sag against the wall, trying to breathe. He's almost unsure if it'll come back through the window, all fire and vengeance.
Hell. It's a damn box of candy.
But it's a magic one.]

The reality of this sinks in as he turns back to Tetsuo, locking the window with his thumbs and making his way over.]
There. That's the end of it, alright?

[Funny, how he's partially trying to convince HIMSELF too...]

[Eyes distant, fixed on the window.]

[His hands reach out to his shoulders, looking down.]
He's arrested. Sabriel got him.
[Despite his strength in saying those words...he can't help but wonder.
Is it really? Is that really the end to it?
Why does the smallest, most sincere part of him doubt that?]

[The scariest part is the sheer conviction in Tetsuo's voice.]

If there's one thing this damn government can do its keep that charm bracelet on his wrist...

[The gears are turning, locking a vague hunch in place. Something feels wrong here, but why?
His eyes widen as the connections click together. Someone telling Kaneda shit he shouldn't know about their past--and Kaneda had mentioned that recently, hadn't he? On that callout post. And that stuff Pan told him... how much of it should he have learned? Tetsuo wanted to hear it so badly, but why would Pan know exactly what to say?
The remaining color drains further from his face as terror shifts to a longer term horror.]
I've been in people's heads - you think I forgot everything I learned when I couldn't do that anymore?

[Tetsuo...has a point. No matter how long they take away Pan's power, he's learned enough about people. Enough about THEM. He can still do damage, and they'd be his number one target.
His hands go rigid on those shoulders, gripping tightly.]

The reaction's immediate as he pulls Tetsuo close, looking out the window where he'd thrown that box of candy. Remembering the anonymous texts that seemed to seep right into Kaneda's insecurities, shaking what little he had of them.]

[It's all he can really say, eyes dark and cloudy with thought. Because how do you FIGHT something like that? It was like Crane, his weapon wasn't tangible.
His damage was unseen and slipped through the radar.]

All of Tetsuo's abilities are still useless in this scenario. If there's a way to rip knowledge clean out of someone and leave them less of a person for it, he doesn't know how, or where to begin. Pan never fails... That's the most unfair part of all of this.
He goes a little more limp in Kaneda's grasp, leaning lightly against him]
He's not allowed to win...
[There's something pleading about that statement, begging Kaneda to agree with him. Or telling the world to change, just a little. Enough to let him slaughter Pan like the dog he is.]

Kaneda was brave, and confident. But Inuyasha had said that they couldn't fight magic with what they had. The Blue Beetle said magic operated outside of logic.
What could they possibly fight it with?]

[For all that Tetsuo believed he could accomplish, Kaneda couldn't stop Pan from killing him before. The alternative theory to why he died was not one Tetsuo liked.]
