You know Sabriel.

Did you talk to her about what might happen if we run our own search and rescue, without the government's know-how? [ Her voice is low. She's not happy about this at all, but it has to be said. ]

She was pretty convincing.

[There's an edge in his voice, as if it kills him to say this.]

Okay. We both get it. We've gotta work with them somehow. If not for intel, then for the sake of the citizens here who might get hurt. [ No matter what they do, they're American. Any attack won't change that. ]

Listen. I've been talking with Sabriel and Major-General Armstrong. The two of them sound okay with backing a meeting with the Department of Defense. I wanna give them a plan for a search and rescue mission run entirely by imPorts. No holds barred, imPort-staffed only. We get government intel and resources, we get the imPorts back and disable their machines. I dunno if they'll wanna negotiate past that.

Do you get what I'm saying?

[His eyes light up at listening to her plan, and there's the sound of a pen scratching behind the feed. He's listening, but the furious strokes of kanji being written on a pad of paper sound, like he wants to get this all down...plus some writing of his own.]

I've got people. Bonnie, I--Armstrong, that stone-cold ice queen? [He goes into Japanese for a second, muttering to himself.]

[Kaneda, form sentences.]

If you can get the Americans to say yes, I've got the perfect team to find em.

Crazy, right? [ Armstrong didn't come without her own negotiations, but she at least liked the idea of the government at least getting a say in these kinds of operations. ]

I know you do, and I'm gonna need a list of their names and what they're gonna do on this mission before I can present anything. We don't even have the imPort location yet, but we should be ready on standby when we do.

We need a team to handle communications back here in America, a team for transport there and back, people who can take care of the imPorts when we get them back... Any category you can think of, okay? I can help you. If you don't have enough peeps, it's time to hit the network.

[More scratching behind the feed, as he takes this down.]

[Healers he knew in spades, it was a matter of finding out which ones would stay behind. Information and communications he saw a few on the network themselves. He could potentially hit them up too.]

The location, you mean where they're being held, right?

Ugh, right. [ There's a sound of paper's flipping, a bit of breathing while she puts the phone between her shoulder and her ear so she can use both hands. ]

Like I said, we know they're not in space, but you know how dig-darn huge Russia is.

[He almost cuts her off right there. As if he couldn't wait for her to finish her sentence.]

Do you know places they definitely AREN'T?

Like, you want a list, or...? There's something I gotta check first before I can give it to you, but... Why?

I've got a--I've got some imPorts that can weed out the rest.

[ "a"? "some"?? ]

Like, the rest, the rest? The entire rest of Russia? [ She sounds a little dubious, but she'll hear him out. ] What're their names? Do they have radars or something?

Sabriel told me something, I don't know if it's gotten to RISE yet, but she said there's a good chance they're underwater.

[And thats a forward to a post he saw on the network.]

Sounds like everyone taken's just as determined as we are. Who knew?

[But more to the point.]

Sooooo it got me thinking. If they areeee...

THAT means they had to leave a shipyard, you know? Can't park your submarine anywhere you want. It's not De Chima.

[He trails off, leaving the next part open if she's still interested.]

Oh my glob. I didn't even get to look at this all the way through... [ Unlike her, but she's also been busy at StarkTech. She does a quick skim. ]

And the shipyard might have info about where that sub is now, if they're even on it. 'Oxygen tanks,' 'not inconsistent with a submarine'... We'd have to be sure that they're in there before we can rescue anybody, but it's worth not ruling out.

[ Russia's still a big place. But if they are underwater, that makes a rescue mission that much harder. How do you evacuate all those people? Hijack the sub? Their options just got so much smaller. ]
