[It's not often that there's mail for him--usually whoever wanted his attention just phoned him up, and he wasn't the type to really receive gifts (not until recently, that is). So when he sees the package on his doorstep addressed to him...as well as the wrapping, he can't help but crouch down curiously and pick it up, reading who it's from.
Akihiko, huh?
A smile forms on his face, folding up the card and tucking it under his arm as he unwraps.
[Losers wow, you just called a shit ton of kids losers.]
[The gift: Some really nice running shoes. He knows you prefer driving, this is meant as a challenge, which will make more sense when he opens the card.]
[Hey, who's the one sitting and waiting for December 25 NOT THIS GUY.
The shoes get an eyebrow raise, turning them over in his hands as he looks at them. He already likes the colour, and there's a small hint of a smirk forming on those lips.
Curiosity gets the better of him, certainly, grabbing that card fro his arm and opening.]
But his eyes glaze over it, smiling as he reads, giving a sideways glance at the shoes and then back to the letter every once in awhile. He knows exactly what they're for, and even more importantly, exactly what Akihiko wants.
Everything's a challenge, isn't it.
That's probably why they got along so well.
And at the second part, his eyes lit up brighter than the lights outside. Because it wasn't just about making money anymore. No, he could go to the pit just to get on Aki's level. Half that? He'll get 9.
There's a little huff as he shoves those shoes under his arm, fishing the communicator out of his pocket to pull up Akihiko's inbox.]

Merry Christmas, Kaneda,
I'm out for the holiday with Shinjiro but I hope this gets to you at the right time.
Let's just say I expect to buy you a new pair next year.]
[As in you better run these out of commission by then.]
[Continuing:
I'll see you when I get back.
And oh yeah, I'm 16-0, all knockouts in the pit. Think you can manage half that? We'll call it your New Year's Resolution.
See you soon.
Akihiko Sanada]
