[Capsule looks at Josuke with wide eyes an a wagging tail, the telltale panting of a dog that's just WAITING for the command to go greet this strange new human! Are you a friend of his master? He loves new friends. The dog's head snaps to Kaneda, who looks unphased at first and only making eye contact with the pup when it shows he's wiggling.
His tongue clicks, which Capsule understands as he gets to his feet, starting to walk towards Josuke should he want to pet.
As for Kaneda himself, he's looking at the cake, raising it up to try and see the price of the thing itself.]
Don't think so. But hey, I'm 18 now, I don't need a reason to get three cakes.
Capsule is greeted happily, a grin stretching from ear-to-ear across Josuke's face as he lets the dog take in his scent from his hand before he goes to town smoothing back fur and scratching behind ears.]
Heh! He's real friendly, huh?
[It's then Josuke seems to catch the meaning behind what Kaneda was saying and he does a double-take from Capsule to his friend.]
Eighteen? So...is today your birthday or something?
[That's a totally great reason to eat three cakes.]
[Kaneda smiles in pride at Capsule taking to Josuke so well--he had no doubts, the dog was about as lovable as they come, but it's good to see that shown. If Capsule finds you likable, then you're likable.]
Gets that from yours truly! [Uh huh.]
[But at the question, Kaneda's already rooting for something in that plastic bag, fork in his teeth to hold as he...pulls out a box of them, fishing one out and handing it to Josuke. Might as well, right?]
Got it in one. Last year I had two, so this year it's three.
[Josuke snickers at Kaneda's boast, but he won't deny there's gotta be some truth to it. Dogs raised to adulthood by people were only as well behaved as they were taught to be, just like children. And, sure, Kaneda was a little rough around the edges, but he was a good guy! Friendly enough where it mattered!
Taking the fork offered him, he grabs a seat next to the other teen and beckons Capsule to come sit nearby so he can keep ruffling his fur even while he happily stuffs a bite of cake into his face.]
Not a bad way to celebrate it!
[All that cake...but it wouldn't be right to have all that without gifts, too. And, as Josuke helps himself to yet another heaping forkful of cake, he wonders what he can give Kaneda for a present. He hadn't known the date was approaching and so he didn't have anything already picked out...]
...hmm, you had your eye on anything else? I wanna get you something!
[Capsule's ears perk up as Kaneda's tongue clicks one more time, trotting his way over to lay on his other side. Social time was over, and he had some cake to watch. And some guard duty to do--
...that is, if he were any good at the actual 'threatening' part.]
What can I say? Riku's not ALL bad ideas.
[He smirks, giving a helpless shrug--unable to keep himself from giving one of his best friends a little shit. He loves him, really.]
...
[But Josuke's next statement catches him by surprise. Not because of Josuke himself--hell, Josuke was a good guy--got him a Christmas present and everything. But the fact that he wants to get him something at all is just such a new concept to him. For two years he'd just...bought himself cake.
He never really expects anyone to actually celebrate his birth...]
Uh.
[Congrats, Josuke, you've managed to catch him off guard for being NICE.]
[That is false. This entire conversation is made of bad ideas. Let's face it: Tetsuo's going to try it, and if he doesn't like it, make Kaneda eat the rest. Sounds fine to him.]
